Open to all Chicagoland UBF chapters, the two-day weekend seminar was held in the church sanctuary and based on the book A Praying Life by Paul Miller, which attendees were encouraged to read beforehand.
The seminar offered a broad and inclusive message for people at every life stage, encouraging them to “do life” through daily prayer to God. Acknowledging that many people struggle with prayer, Pastor Will shared relatable, real-life examples of common prayer difficulties and how these can be transformed into an intimate and fruitful connection with our heavenly Father.
Participants engaged in a variety of practical activities designed to involve both the mind and heart in the course material, helping them internalize and practice the concepts. People found the seminar to be gracious and encouraging, as we learned that prayer is easier than we think when we can lay down our expectations and realize that Father God wants us to be honest and helpless in our prayers. People were introduced to the tool of prayer cards as a practical method for praying faithfully for ourselves, our anxieties, difficult relationships, work and other people.
At the conclusion of the seminar, an invitation was extended to join prayer cohorts, small groups of 4–6 people based on shared ministries or peer relationships (e.g., campus ministry members, church wide, parents, etc.). These cohorts offer a meaningful opportunity for applying daily prayer in community, building mutual encouragement, and deepening one’s relationship with God. Meetings will reference A Praying Life as an ongoing resource.
